bein w bein | بين و بين

early stages | بدايات

  • "،في المراحل الأولى، كان اسم المشروع "كسرالصمت stimuleringsfonds بدعم من منحة

In the early stages, the project was called “Breaking the Silence,” supported by stimuleringsfonds starting grant

I added some fragments : mind maps & IG posts

    Project Description - Stimuleringsfonds Page

  • Seeing the project as stages or sequences, I reflected on the title of the project

“Breaking the Silence," and kept it as the first phase. Moving from this phase

    - an important first step as a call to action. It meant personally, a phase of trusting in myself, the impact I could contribute to those around me and the world. This translated in trusting in this quest,

fully dedicating myself to the in-depth research, developing artistic & technical skills - a journey that is anything but linear, rather an evolving process.

For the next phase, I introduced the following title : (بين و بين) Bein w Bein

•Bein w bein translates from Arabic to in-betweenness, exploring the inter-personal dynamics I am investigating as ways of negotiation, collaboration and coexistence. Additionally, it evokes notions of transitions, movement and fluidity. Lastly, on a practical level, it embodies the integration of elements like theory and practice, collaboration and authentic expression.

    • I had the opportunity to refine my proposal with the help of a mentor while taking part in Tae’thir program in Marsille

    • I had the opportunity to present my idea and receive interest from CCU

    • bein alam w alam | بين عالم و عالم

developed during the ableton residency with issue magazine

    performed live @radio radio

bein w bein emerges, as an in-between space, a portal where values are not yet fixed, where processes themselves become the focus of attention.

development stages | مراحل التطوير

  • I’m sharing some material from different experiences and stages - from the workshop i held in casablanca, together with the participants we explored their personal narratives, experiences with different forms of surveillance, we mind mapped and talked, one of the stories shared about an arrest during a protest transformed into a collaboration shared in the second link and developed further when i returned to amsterdam - exploring and expressing our embodied experiences in different formats. The last link is when i personally explored it during a workshop organised by ccu

  • spaces marked by absence
    memory, closure, restriction

The second part of the workshop i held in casablanca, was to go out in the city with the field recorder, to visit sites participants shared stories and links with, and record sounds. one participant for example talked about a park where they used to hold cultural activities until they were stopped by the government

  • i was inspired by taking part in sonic acts workshop “Pedagogy of the surveilled”, which later on influenced how i led the workshop during the halaqat residency in casablanca."

During my presentation for halaqat, i presented three stages with transitions : the personal (exploring self-censorship) the interpersonal (the piece i was developing with my friend about the time of her arrest) and the collective (inviting audience to play with the material and make sound)

in-between the past two years, i formed various collaborations and put together a team to realise the project, also pitched my idea to CCU and other organisations in Amsterdam, Utrecht & Amman. The next steps, is to apply for funding with the updated proposal

    • dissonance between presence and elsewhere

    • between childhood and rupture

the live set carries personal, interpersonal and collective acts.
